Hello,
I'm hoping that someone can assist me in overcoming a large dose of bureacratic intransigence.
I am a general and genuine football fan from Berkshire and have a long standing ambition to visit all 92 league grounds. After many years and disruptions caused by clubs changing ground and working outside the UK I am now nearing my target.
I have planned a weekend of games based around attending the Wigan v. Man City game (which would be ground number 87) but now Wigan FC won't sell me one of the many tickets that they have available for this fixture. The reason for this is that Man City have sold all their allocation and the club are therefore "forced by the police" to restrict ticket sales to registered members.
I have therefore registered as a member only to be told by the club that tickets can only be sold to members who have attended previous games. Quite how I get to have attended a previous game when the club won't sell me a ticket I'm not sure, but never mind!!
Apparently this is to guard against away fans buying tickets in the home area and subsequently causing trouble. Reasonable enough and fully understandable.
I have spoken at length to the club and they have told me they recognise I'm genuine - I'm 54 years old, 5' 6" and 10.5 stone wet through and about as much unlike a football hooligan as it's possible to look and be - but I'm afraid that the club have chosen absolute inflexible dogmatic adherence to their process in preference to exercising a bit of common sense and judgement.
I'm therefore hoping that some-one can help me with obtaining a ticket, either by buying one for me, or maybe you have a spare ticket or a mate who isn't able to get to the match. I only want one ticket. I will happily pay full cover price for the ticket, not to mention a couple of pints or half time refreshments if bribery and corruption helps to smooth the transaction.
Hope someone can help me - my phone number if anyone wants to call and check me out is 07850 713054, e/mail first name_second name at btconnect dot com.
Many thanks and good luck on Sunday.
